We’re excited to share that the Land of Natura owners—brothers Adam and David Makowski—were recently featured on ABC WISN 12 News! They made quite the splash during their evening news debut.
“Wisconsin Brothers Build Chemical-Free Waterpark Using Nature” focused on how the brothers engineered an all-natural filtration system for the park’s five-acre lake, which is the world’s largest man-made, naturally filtered lake.
The lake holds 15 million gallons of water. The fact that the natural filtration system processes more than 30 million gallons of water every 24 hours makes their ingenuity even more impressive. They didn’t have any blueprints to follow when trying to design a system, especially one that would operate seamlessly on such a large scale. But their hard work experimenting with different approaches paid off, resulting in the current system that successfully filters the millions of gallons of water daily.
How the Land of Natura’s Natural Lake Filtration System Works
The result is the Dells’ only chlorine-free waterpark and water that’s so clean, “scientists who tested the water found it to be almost potable,” said WISN 12. But as Dave explained in the interview, their vision was about more than providing guests with an immersive experience in nature, it was also about inclusivity. Those with skin sensitivities who are unable to go in chlorinated water are now able to dip into the fun at Land of Natura.
"One lady who lives in town, first time she actually played with her kids in the water because she can't go at all in the pools. And so the kids were shocked. Then the mom went out with them to play," Dave said.
